However, Google has introduced Host Management for all Google Workspace accounts. Depending on the edition, this option might be enabled or disabled by default.

With Host Management enabled you can add co-hosts who can perform various tasks. The number of co-hosts a facilitator can add varies by Google Workspace edition, with a maximum of 25. Specifically, co-hosts can:

  • Lock chat
  • Lock presenting
  • Lock video
  • End the meeting for everyone
  • Mute everyone

How To Give Control Remotely In Google Meet

Since Chrome Remote Desktop is also developed by Google, it is one of the best ways to enable remote control during a Google Meet session. It is fully compatible with Google Chrome browsers through its extension. The following steps explain how to configure remote control using Chrome Remote Desktop:

  1. Open Google Chrome and log in with the same Google account.
  2. Visit the Chrome Remote Desktop extension page and click "Add to Chrome".
  3. Go to the "Remote Access" tab and click the download button.
  4. Select "Accept & Install".
  5. Give your computer a name and click "Next".
  6. Set and confirm a PIN, then click "Start".
  7. Return to the Chrome Remote Desktop interface to see a list of accessible devices. Choose the device you want to connect to.
  8. To begin a session, enter the PIN and click the blue arrow.

With Chrome Remote Desktop

Chrome doesn't offer this as a Google Meet feature a convenient solution for granting remote control during Google Meet sessions. Here's how to set it up:

  1. Ensure both parties have Google Chrome installed on their devices. Then, download and install your Chrome Remote Desktop extension from the Chrome Extension page.
  2. Open Chrome Remote Desktop and navigate to the "Remote Access" tab. Click on the download button and follow the prompts to enable access on your device.
  3. Assign a unique PIN for remote access. Enter and confirm the PIN when prompted. This PIN will serve as the key for accessing the device remotely.
  4. Could you share the access link or provide the email address associated with the remote desktop account to the person who needs the control in Google Meet.
  5. During the Google Meet session, the participant requiring control can initiate remote control by accessing the shared link or using the provided email address. They will be prompted to click "generate code".
  6. Once the PIN is entered, the host can grant remote control permissions to the participant. The participant can now remotely control the host's screen, facilitating remote support during the meeting.

Using third-party software

Various third-party software solutions offer remote control capabilities that can be integrated with Google Meet. These tools typically involve installing software on the host and participant devices and following similar steps to provide remote collaboration for Google Workspace users.
